What is Tone-Up?”

The original barefoot barre workout!

Resistance Training for mature women, at it’s finest.

Tone-Up was developed in the mid-1980's by Suesan Lazarus Pawlitski. This class is based on the time-tested exercises from dance, Pilates and strength training to formulate an effective, efficient, and easy to follow workout. The workout is designed for women, with an emphasis on keeping safe from injury. Tone-Up is designed to keep you fit and functional for an active, healthy lifestyle. This program is proven to develop strength, balance, coordination, mobility and flexibility & a strong, fit body.

Tone-Up Santa Barbara started in 1996 in Suesan’s garage and then was located in Santa Barbara studios for over twenty years. Then, in March 2020, (Covid), classes began virtually on ZOOM first from her sailboat, SUGAR, and NOW, it’s newest location, Nashville, TN!

Thank you for your interest in learning more! And welcome to our Tone-Up family!

“I used to wake up and my entire foot (feet) would hurt/ache from toes to ankles. I lived with that forever - years- thinking “I guess that’s what happens when you’re 50+.”  No more! Not after about a month of starting your class. I really was pleasantly surprised. All that toe/foot work and now my feet scream for a workout if a couple days go by. Thanks a million Suesan!” — Mary A.

“I was out on my walk in the morning and the toe of my shoe caught on an uneven part of the side walk. I went forward fast and was sure I was going down. Then on the third step when I was pretty much parallel to the ground it felt like someone was above me pulling me up by the center of my body with a magic string. It was so so unexpected. I just stood up, breathing heavy and shaking and laughing because I didn’t fall!!! Both my friend and my husband said the same thing when I told them: that was your core!!!” — Georgia
